Demons are REAL

If you're a follower of Jesus, you need to know what they are and how to deal with them.

Let's be clear about one thing.

The kingdom of darkness does not want you to know the truth about demons: what they are, where they came from, how they operate and how to exercise your dominion over them.

The enemy wants you to stay deceived.

He wants you to remain fearful.

He wants Christians to struggle.

He wants Christians to feel separated from God.

Yes, Christians.

Because Christians absolutely can, and many do have demons.

The best analogy I can think of to demystify this whole topic - and I apologise in advance for this - but I want you to start thinking of demons as ‘spiritual head lice’, or ‘spiritual cooties’.

Here’s why:

  • Demons are parasites - they need to find a body
  • You can have them without knowing you have them
  • They hide really well to avoid being discovered
  • Lots of people have them and some people are absolutely infested
  • There are loads of different types
  • They can alter your behaviour - they make you scratch, sometimes, but not all the time
  • People can get them from their friends, from their family and from the people they spend time with
  • People can get them from the places they go and the things they do
  • A ‘clean’ lifestyle doesn’t prevent them
  • There’s no point being scared of them, because they’re easily treated when you know how
  • If you see one, you can remove it, but a deep treatment is probably required to get rid of all of them
  • Sometimes, multiple treatments are needed to get them all out; and
  • When they’re all gone, there are things you can do to stop them from coming back.

See, they're not so scary after all.

Here's another thing I know for sure.

Jesus does not want his church to be afraid of spiritual head lice.

Jesus also does not want his church to be full of spiritual head lice.

He wants his people to be set free from all of the things that enslave and ensnare them. In fact, one of the most faith affirming things you will ever see in this world, is a demon responding to the name of Jesus.

Let’s think about this for a minute.

Any Christian who has seen a demon manifest knows that they are very very real. They can make the human body do things that there is no way that the person would (or could) be able to do. Slithering on the floor. Screaming. Mocking. If you know the person well, you know beyond any doubt that this ‘thing’ manifesting in them is not ‘them’.

These demons are seemingly in control and especially where they have a contract in place - they’re very sure of themselves. And yet, they also know exactly who Jesus is and the authority that is connected with his name.

Sometimes as believers, we can lose sight of the reality of our faith.

With time, we start to drift - church becomes something that we do on Sundays. Those who have been raised in Christian families often drift away from their faith in their 20’s. Church becomes less relevant. We know what we’re supposed to be doing, but there’s no urgency.

But an experience up close with a demon will change all that.

If you had any doubt that the supernatural realm was real - there’s your confirmation. It’s not a cleverly scripted sermon, it’s not well meaning advice from a family member.

You can’t help but be impacted by the knowledge that it's real.

I believe that it is a very clever deception that the enemy has convinced Christians that they can’t be demonised.

When Jesus was conducting his ministry here on earth, approximately ⅓ of the miracles he performed were related to casting demons out of people.

Onlookers were amazed - because this approach was definitely new!

Up until when Jesus arrived, being afflicted with a demon was effectively a life sentence. That's why Jesus casting them out was a display of both the power of the Holy Spirit and of kingdom authority.

And notice - the demons knew exactly who Jesus was and what his role was.

Because the church as a whole is no longer walking in this mandate, we’ve been robbed of this experience of the supernatural power and authority of Jesus.

Worse still, people who should have been properly set free are still bound and under the influence of demons.

It blows my mind that Jesus entrusted ordinary believers with the authority to cast demons out.

He literally gave us the authority and he asked us to do this.

Don't you think it's time for us to understand what that actually means?

I know that what I'm suggesting goes against much of what you have been taught over the years. But here's the thing. When casting demons out becomes a regular part of discipleship, believers can actually experience true freedom. Not the type of freedom where you pray a prayer and suffer silently with pain and addictions, all the while crying out to God for mercy... but true freedom.

I encourage you to begin your journey into freedom right now.

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by understanding what the Bible has to say about demons and how to cast them out.
